Derby Par-tay

Wow.  How bad am I...just now getting around to posting about our Kentucky Derby party.  We hosted a house-warming party for the Kentucky Derby.  It was pretty much awesome.  The spread of food was insane.  Sorry for the lack of pictures, but I was crazy baking that morning.  We had bourbon balls, a Bourbon pecan pie, and a "Derby" pie.  I also attempted to make beer cheese (definitely need to work on that one) and had miniature hot browns.  Then the main course was KFC, of course!

My Run for the Roses Wreath.  I think it turned out pretty nice.  I may try to add something to the middle of it...a horse with silks or a tile that I paint with Run for the Roses maybe.  Any other suggestions?

The Personnel Department folks picking out their favorite horses.

The WSFA people snickering about Max's seersucker pants.  :)

Now it gets intense.  The race is on!  Go, Baby Go!  (Anyone else have a difficult time hearing the announcer this year?  Or am I just getting old?)

We did two different pools.  One was a 2 dollar blind draw and the other was a 5 dollar blind draw.
April won!

And Mark won!  He was excited about the pool back when I first told him about it.

Also note the roses on the folding table, thanks to Kristen!

I'm kinda secretly (or not so secretly now) that this can be a big event that we do every year.  And hoping that my family and Josh's family can come down for it too.  We shall see though.  There's other things I want to add too.  I need to hand out the words for My Old Kentucky Home.  And I want to have some sort of "Best Hat" competition!  All in all though, the inaugural Johnson Derby party was a success.  I had a wonderful time with a bunch of wonderful people!

  1. Not that I wouldn't want to come see you, but I thought I would point out the eyebrow arching reaction one would have for people in Kentucky to leave for Alabama for a Derby party. . .
